SecondBite - Waste Not Want Not Gala Dinner

The ‘Waste Not Want Not’ Gala dinner was held on the first Monday of June and S|LC were there to lend a hand once again.

Taking place at the iconic Melbourne Cricket ground, the event was set to celebrate Melbourne culture and identity, featuring some of Melbourne’s finest chefs handpicked by Matt Preston.

Those that don’t know of SecondBite, it’s a not for profit organisation that helps to ensure that surplus fresh food is redistributed to community food programs throughout Australia.

This year’s event raised over $140,000, which redistributed enough food for over 700,000 meals!

S|LC has been involved with SecondBite since it first began in 2005, igniting our passion to help reduce land fill and to provide healthy nutritious food to those in need. It has made us at S|LC very aware of minimising the amount of food we throw out at home and in business - ultimately trying to avoid wastage at all costs.

A quote from the founder Ian Carson, ‘I hate waste and didn’t want less fortunate people to go hungry and for them to eat healthy food and not junk food’
