Beauty And The Beast

We were delighted to receive a call from Solution Entertainment at the start of the year regarding a styling opportunity for the Australian premiere of Beauty and the Beast.

An exciting moment for the team, it was through word of mouth that Solution Entertainment had heard of the work we had been doing. To be held at Sydney’s historic State Theatre, the brief was to create a media wall that would help bring the Beauty and the Beast story to life.

Along with the obvious excitement came some trepidation as well. Still relatively new to the game, it was the first gig of its size and scale that SLC had been presented with. Whilst somewhat hesitant at first, we knew this was an incredible opportunity and one we could not let pass us by. We knew instinctively that we would have to find and engage an awesome creative team to help fulfill the brief, and it was intuition that led us to the perfect people to help make the job a success.

We engaged self-taught Melbourne artist Georgie Seccull (1986.com.au), who creates large-scale installations and three-dimensional works of art from new and salvaged materials, and together began working on the design brief, conceptualising an idea to cover the media wall with twisted vines and red paper roses. Georgie then got to work using her materials - crepe paper, wire, natural branches and spray paint - to make over one thousand red paper roses. In addition, we engaged Eye Visy (a graphic solutions company) to custom build the backdrop itself, as well as creating a logo made out of real Swarovski crystals.

The end result was a spectacularly bold, dramatic and beautiful wall that provided the perfect backdrop for the red-carpet arrivals. In successfully pulling off this major gig, we were able to gain fantastic experience in coordinating a team of creatives from start to finish. The biggest challenge might ought to have been building the trust and respect of the partners involved, but this went seamlessly well. A job well done.
